I recently explored the monastery in Montserrat, Spain, perched atop a mountain. This World Heritage site houses the renowned Black Madonna statue, believed to have been carved in Jerusalem during Christianity’s early days. Many pilgrims visit the monastery, drawn by the belief that touching the Black Madonna statue bestows safety, healing, and guidance.
The monastery offers a unique location for exploration. It features an excellent hiking trail that allows visitors to climb and view the monastery from above.
It features a small market selling locally produced honey and cheese. You can also find great souvenirs just outside the monastery grounds.
